Norovirus is a highly contagious gastrointestinal virus where
the potential for someone who is sick to infect others exists from the
moment they become sick, to at least 3 days after they get better.
Disturbingly, some people remain contagious for up to 2 weeks after
recovering. This may be a factor in successive cruises becoming infected.
Most
people wish to take an ocean cruise at least once during their lifetimes,
but with the recent news coverage of cruises gone bad involving hundreds of
passengers at a time there has been a decline in actual people looking
forward to that, ‘All aboard’ call. There are ways you can avoid this
phenomena and the more common seasickness that some passengers develop all
by themselves.
I've been on many cruises on several lines from both coasts. All that time at sea, I felt relatively safe. All passengers and crew members are required to participate in a muster drill that acquaint the travelers with their life vests and lifeboat stations. Every crew member has been trained in emergency procedures. But all the most recent news is troubling.
When planning a travel vacation or cruise vacation, the last thing that one wants to think about is trouble or cancellation. Thus travel and cruise insurance is often left on the back burner. However, when the time comes to purchase your vacation insurance, be sure that you compare cruise insurance and travel insurance policies to ensure that you are getting what you expect. As always, it's "buyer beware"!
