March 30, 2007, Seattle, WA — Holland America Line raised 0,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, easily exceeding its 0,000 fundraising goal for the year-long program which ended today.
In celebration of the success of the ship-based program -- where ship passengers pledge money for walking laps around the deck -- Richard D. Meadows, CTC, executive vice president, marketing, sales, and guest programs for Holland America Line, presented representatives from Komen for the Cure with a check today at the Cruise 3sixty conference in Ft. Lauderdale.
“We’re overwhelmed with the spirit and generosity of our guests,” said Meadows. “On every cruise, our guests take time from their holiday to raise money to help fight this disease. Holland America Line is proud to be a vehicle for this most worthy cause.”
Meadows noted that one charter group on board the ms Maasdam turned out nearly 800 participants who raised ,800, smashing the previous Holland America Line single walk record of 349 walkers.

Each participant received an On Deck for the Cure t-shirt and On Deck for the Cure pink wristband as well as an invitation to a pink lemonade reception following the walk.
Carnival Corporation & plc extends program to other ship lines for 2007
Buoyed by the success of Holland America Line’s On Deck for the Cure program, Carnival Corporation & plc brands announced today that four other Carnival brands will introduce the year-long fund raising program to their guests. Starting in April, the combined 65 ships from Carnival Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, Seabourn Cruise Line, and Costa Cruises, along with Holland America Line, will provide an opportunity for guests to participate in the walks and other activities with the goal of raising million by April 2008.
On Deck for the Cure, presented by the Holland America Line Foundation, builds upon Holland America Line’s existing charitable programs including cash sponsorships, in-kind shipboard events, free and reduced-fare cruise donations for nonprofit fundraising events, United Way participation and other philanthropic activities. The Holland America Line Foundation donates 75%, or a minimum of .25, of each donation to Komen for the Cure. The remaining 25% covers a portion of the program costs.
