FT. LAUDERDALE (January 3, 2006) - Guests aboard an upcoming voyage of Seven Seas Mariner will have the opportunity to participate in an onboard lecture program with noted meteorologist and hurricane specialist Max Mayfield. The former director of the Tropical Prediction Center of the National Hurricane Center, Mr. Mayfield will sail aboard the 700-guest, all-balcony, all-suite Seven Seas Mariner from Ft. Lauderdale through the Eastern Caribbean, leading guests on an exploration of hurricane behavior and meteorology through three onboard lectures.
"We strive to offer onboard enrichment programs and guest lecturers who provide unique insights and expertise to our guests," said Sophie Vlessing, vice president, guest strategy and marketing for Regent.
Using his expertise both as a meteorologist and a communicator, Mr. Mayfield will attempt to demystify what is for many a perplexing topic. A member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association, Mr. Mayfield was distinguished with the Government Communicator of the Year Award in 2006 from the National Association of Government Communicators. The same year, he was honored with the Neil Frank Award from the 2006 National Hurricane Conference for "efforts to significantly improve the accuracy of hurricane forecasting," a factor which has "undoubtedly saved countless lives and property." In 2005, Mr. Mayfield was named ABC Television Network's "Person of the Week" following Hurricane Katrina, and received a Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service from President George W. Bush.
The 10-night voyage sails roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale on March 13, 2007 with calls in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Barts, St. Maarten, the British Virgin islands, Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos. Cruise fares include all shipboard gratuities; complimentary beverages, including select wines and spirits served throughout the ship; complimentary 24-hour room service; in-suite bar setup in butler suites; and refrigerator stocked with soft drinks, beer and bottled water replenished daily.
